Sage of Salvia Officinalis belongs to the lamiaceaes family, and is native to the mediterranean areas.
Besides being a highly used plant in gastronomy, it contains many medical properties.
Sowing time:
In warm climates: from february to june, and/or from septembre to novembre.
In cold climates : from march to june or from september to october.
It needs sun and warm temperatures, even up to 35ºC
Two or three times a week is a good criteria for the irrigation. Although this plant can withstand droughts will thrive much better with regular water.
It is not demanding of rich soils, although it will do much better in sandy and well drained ones.
Sage can suffer from fungus such as mildew, try not to overwater it, and wait until the soil is totally dried before watering again. Regarding bugs it can be affected by some aphids or spider mite, use an ecologycal product to get rid of them or use the hose to pressure to clean as much as possible, or wash the plant under the tap to pressure.
Consulted sources in addition to our experience with this plant.
