Osteospermum is a colorful daisy that will fill the garden with color in spring.
Osteospermums is a herbaceous-semi-perennial on the family of asteraceaes.
Very easy to grow, it is a guarantee of color during spring, but will not produce flowers during the summer, at least not like in spring, so it is a good moment to give it a light trim, some of the Osteospermums will bloom again after the highest temperatures are over.
African Daisy does not demand so much rich soils, although it will thrive much better if we provide with it.
Irrigation should be done without wetting the flowers to prevent fungi sprouts, and in the moment that we check that soil is dry, providing good drinks of water but without overwatering and being sure that there is a good drain.
Osteospermum is not frost resistant, but is resistant to short periods of drought and can be sown in coastal areas.
To encourage flowering we can use a fertilizer rich in potasio (k) and we can remove the wilted flowers and branches.
By the end of the winter we will trim it to stimulate the new growing. This task also can be carried out by the end of the autumn if we prefer to have a tidy bush during the winter.
