Delosperma cooperi (ice plant) is a vigorous, matte-leafed, evergreen succulent with shiny, deep pink-purple, daisy-like flowers up to 5 cm in diameter.

It flowers continuously from early summer to autumn, the flowers being produced in such quantities that they literally cover the foliage of the light green fleshy leaves.

The intensity of the flower's colour, combined with the long flowering season and the evergreen foliage, reinforces the ornamental interest of this plant. The perfect choice as a ground cover or for rock gardens. Ideal for gardens that receive a lot of sun and heat.

This plant is native to South Africa.

It grows to 7-15 cm high and spreads vigorously to 60 cm or more.

It thrives in full sun in dry, well-drained soil. Good drainage is essential for its survival. It tolerates sandy and gravelly soils. If conditions are too wet, it will suffer and grow poorly. Waters little during the growing season. Good tolerance to heat, salty soils and drought

Delosperma is easy to grow, as well as being a good choice for areas of the garden that are sunny and dry.

It is an excellent complement for border fronts, rock gardens, coastal gardens, terraces and slopes.

It does not suffer from serious insect or disease problems. Can occasionally be affected by aphids and woodlouses.

Sowing is by seed or by cuttings in spring or summer.
