Vigorous and popular, the award-winning Lithodora diffusa Grace Ward (Gromwell) is a mat-forming evergreen shrub with drooping stems lined with small, lanceolate, dark green, hairy leaves.

In spring and summer, it is dotted with profuse, deep blue, star-shaped flowers held in terminal clusters. This plant is ideal for rock gardens, slopes and cascades over retaining walls. A choice groundcover that makes an unforgettable display week after week.

It has received the prestigious Award of Merit in Gardening from the Royal Horticultural Society.

Grows to 15-30 cm tall and 60-90 cm wide.

It is easily grown in acidic, well-drained soils in full sun or partial shade. Full sun is best in cool summer climates, but some afternoon shade is welcome in hot summer climates.

Ideal for flowerbeds and borders, slopes, as ground cover, cottage gardens, coastal gardens, urban gardens, Mediterranean gardens or gravel and rock gardens. Also a good choice for containers.

Virtually disease and pest free.

Cut back after flowering. Propagate by semi-hardwood cuttings.

Native to southern and western Europe.
