The genus Ligularia belongs to the Asteraceae family and is made up of more than 100 species of perennial plants native to the temperate climate zones of Asia and Europe.
Commonly known by the names Ligularia and Basque beret.
They are herbaceous plants that grow in the form of lawn grass (cespitose). It has large, palm-shaped leaves. The flowers are yellow, grouped in inflorescences and resemble daisies. Its flowering season is in summer.
It is ideal for use in borders, in rockeries, to upholster areas of the garden and in pots on terraces and patios.
It can be grown in full sun or semi-shade and the average temperature should be between 15-25 ºC.
This plant needs a soil that retains moisture, otherwise it is not demanding. If it is necessary to transplant it, it is best to do so in the period from autumn to spring.
It is advisable to water it abundantly in summer and to reduce watering a little during the rest of the year.
The annual fertilising that we do throughout the garden is enough, although it will be grateful if we add a mineral fertiliser every 15 days in summer.
It is very resistant to diseases and pests and does not need special care.
It is propagated by division of bushes and from seeds sown in spring.
