Strikingly beautiful, Lewisia cotyledon (Siskiyou Lewisia) is a perennial that forms a substantial rosette of dark green, fleshy, spoon-shaped leaves.

In late spring and summer, and occasionally later, it is crowned with beautiful open clusters of brightly coloured funnel-shaped flowers, up to 2.5 cm in diameter.

The flowers, which open successively, range from pale pink to deep magenta, yellow, salmon or orange, and each petal usually ranges from several colours. Very easy to grow, Lewisia is suitable for the rock garden, or in the crevices of a retaining wall.

It grows up to 15-30 cm tall and wide.

Grows in full sun or light shade in moderately fertile, neutral to acidic, well-drained soil. Drought tolerant once established. Protect from winter wetness.

Perfect choice for rock or container gardens.

Beware of aphids, slugs, snails and rot.

Propagate by seed or scions.

Native to southern Oregon and northern California.
