Basil or Great Basil or Basilicum is a culinary plant that is cultivated as an annual, and which belongs to the lamiaceae family.
It needs sun, at least several hours a day, and a warm climate for its development, it is not cold resistant.
We will try to place it in a sunny site and to water frequently but avoiding soggy substrate. We may also use a base with pebbles to get some degree of humidity in the environment.
To get a bushier plant we can pinch some of the stems; and to have a more long lasting plant we can use a special fertilizer for herbs.
Regarding pests control, we should keep an eye on our plant, as there is a small green worm which suddenly appears and that hides very easily among their leaves producing holes; we can remove these little worms manually or with a natural or biological insecticide.
Once that the plant has the flower is better to replace it or to wait until new seeds sprout.
