It is known by the scientific or Latin name of Jasminum sambac, vulgarly its name is Diamela, Jasmine of Arabia, Jasmine diamela, Chamela, Jasmine of paper, Jasmine diamelo, Jasmine sambac, Jasmine oloroso.

It belongs to the Oleaceae family (Oleaceae). It is a plant native to Arabia and India. It can reach a height of 2 metres.

It is a plant famous for the perfume of its white flowers, grouped in corymbiform cymes. They are large, white and very fragrant.

It has large, dark green, semi-hardy foliage. It is only grown outdoors in frost-free areas. It freezes at 0ºC.

It is a very vigorous plant and can reach a height of 10 to 12 metres.

Its flowers are pinkish white, perfumed and gathered in panicles that open in spring.

It is propagated by semi-hardwood cuttings with leaves, taken at the end of summer and rooted in a greenhouse.

Layering and cutting are also commonly used.

Jasmine weakened by drought or other causes should be invigorated by appropriate watering and fertilising.
