Description:

Cilantro belongs to the Apiaceae family and is part of the Coriandrum genus, consisting of 2 species of annual plants: Coriandrum sativum and Coriandrum tordylium. It is commonly known as Cilantro, Chinese parsley, Coriander, Anisillo, Culandro, European coriander, and Dania.

Cilantro is an annual plant used as a culinary spice and can exceed 50 cm in height. It has vibrant green leaves that closely resemble those of parsley. Its flowers emerge in clusters (umbels) and are white with pink touches, blooming in summer.

Cultivation:

Cilantro is widely utilized in vegetable gardens, ornamental gardens, and containers. Both its fresh or dried leaves and sun-dried mature seeds can be consumed. The plant thrives in full sun or partial shade and completes its annual cycle in autumn without being affected by cold or frost.

Care:

Cilantro prefers well-drained soil rich in organic matter to ensure fertility. Adequate watering is essential to keep the soil consistently moist without becoming waterlogged, as cilantro does not tolerate drought. Before planting, it is advisable to enrich the soil with plenty of organic matter (compost).

Regular pruning of flowers and wilted leaves is recommended if seeds are not desired. Common pests that may affect cilantro include aphids, especially if the plants are not adequately watered.

Propagation:

Cilantro is propagated from seeds sown in spring. When seedlings emerge, it's essential to thin them out to ensure they're spaced around 40 cm apart.

At Viveros González, we take pride in offering high-quality cilantro plants along with expert advice for their cultivation and care, ensuring our customers can enjoy the delightful flavors and aromas of this versatile herb in their gardens and kitchens.
