This plant is the "Schwarzkopf" (German for "black head") variety of Aeonium arboreum.

They are succulent plants that reach 1 metre in height and have large rosettes of leaves at the end of the stem that are black or, in warm climates such as the Mediterranean, purple. They produce small, abundant yellow flowers in conical inflorescences. They flower from winter to early spring.

It is a plant used outdoors in rockeries, as an indoor plant and on balconies and terraces in pots.

This plant needs full sun or semi-shade exposure. It does not tolerate frost and does not like the cold.

The soil should be well drained and a mixture of garden soil with siliceous sand and leaf mould is ideal.

It should be watered regularly in spring and especially in summer (waiting for the soil to dry out between waterings) and almost avoiding watering in winter. It is a drought resistant plant.

They do not need pruning or special fertilisers.

It can be propagated by seeds sown in summer or, better still, by cuttings by cutting a rosette with a piece of stem (if it has aerial roots it is better) and rooting in sand.
