Persian lime or tahiti lime or sweet lime or persian lime is an evergreen plant which belongs to the rutaceace family.
The origin of this tree seems to come from the junction between the varieties of "citrus grandis", "citrus micrantha" and "x citrus medica".
The tree is moderately vigorous and it can grow up to 4.5-6.0 meters high, It has a large crown and is almost thornless. Branches tend to fall.
The fruit of approximately 6.00 cmtrs in diameter may take almost a year to develop, being green, and yellow when ripe. Harvest can be distributed from may until fall, being the moment of greatest collection between July and September.
Persian lime needs rich well-drained soils, without flooding, and a tropical or semi-tropical climate and water.
Pruning is best to be carried out when the fruit is over, but before the sprout of new flowering.
Remove damaged, broken or weak branches, as well as those that avoid the good ventilation of the tree. As branches are a bit messy, it is necessary to trim for shaping the tree.
It may be affected by the citrus spiders mites, by leaf miner, or by some fungus, which as the most of the cases, will appear when there is an excess of water.
