Echeveria is a genus of succulent plants in the Crassulaceae family and is comprised of about 400 species native to southern North America, Central America and the northernmost part of South America.

This plant is known by the common name of Echeveria. They are small, stemless succulent plants that grow up to 15 cm high. They form beautiful rosettes of fleshy, light green leaves ending in a prominent tip. On their pink flower stalks are bell-shaped red flowers with a yellow tip. They bloom from the spring season until early summer.

They are used to make succulent borders, for rock gardens, in cactus gardens and in indoor or greenhouse pots. They are suitable for coastal gardens and for large cities because of their tolerance to pollution. It should be noted that they are rather slow-growing plants.

Echeveria agavoides likes full sun exposure although it can thrive in light shade. Temperatures below 2°C are not suitable.

A commercial cactus potting soil or a mixture of 75% leaf mould and 25% siliceous sand is best.

Watering should be moderate at a rate of once every 4-5 days in the warmer months and reduced to every 8-10 days during autumn and spring; in winter reduce watering to a minimum or stop if it is very cold.

These plants do not need to be pruned or fertilised. On the other hand, they do not withstand excessive humidity (they rot) but are resistant to pests and diseases.

They are propagated by leaf cuttings and by separating offshoots.
