Crassula Afra C17

Crassula afra, also known as jade tree, belongs to the crassulaceae family and is a slow-growing evergreen.

Its scientific name is Crassula ovata or Crassula argentea and it is of South African origin, being considered a succulent shrub.

It can reach a height of 1-2 m. Its leaves are thick and fleshy, often with reddish margins.

It usually bears small clusters of starry, whitish flowers, which grow together. Flowering is mainly in autumn-winter.

The best place for it to do well is in sun or semi-shade, and it can withstand short frosts if the substrate is dry.

If grown indoors, it is best to take it outside from spring to late summer.

It is usually well adapted to coastal areas, preferring sandy soils, although it can also live in stony and volcanic soils.

Crassula ovata is one of the easiest houseplants to grow, but flowering rarely occurs in a living room.

If planted in pots it must have good drainage. It can tolerate dry, poor substrate.

Multiplication is by stem cuttings, seeds. It is easy to rejuvenate this plant if it becomes too large, so pull some of the old leaves off the stem, plant them in soil next to the base of the original plant and new seedlings will spontaneously develop.
